Monday Question of the Day~

I'm going to follow the format of another friend's blog today......

As I grew up my family drank. Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents. I have many memories of my dad having too much to drink, passing out, acting foolish.

It never made me think I wouldn't drink.

The first time I remember drinking was in 10th grade with my best friend at my house. Looking back, I don't think we drank enough to really even feel anything, but we thought we did. The first time I got drunk was 4th of July before my senior year in high school. Tequila. With my aunt and uncle.

When was the first time you got drunk?

Happy Monday~

I don't dwell on my drinking stories, but I do want to remember them and I also want to try and recall the circumstances.

As my children grow up I want to be a safe place for them and to also teach them and prayerfully help them make MUCH wiser choices than I did.

I was 13 or 14 and with my parents at a big community bash. I thought i was going to throw up....but thankfully just managed to pass out in the car on the way home.

My first time getting drunk was when I was 13 or 14 at a friend's party out in the country - was drinking whatever was available and smoking cigs too (that also became an addiction). I felt so sociable and free. I was already a cheerleader and athlete and hung with a huge crowd...but I still felt I needed to drink to be funny & social. I'll never forget it cuz we were all jackin around on horses and 4-wheelers and someone drove the 4-wheeler into a barbwire fence and cut themselves up pretty badly. Lucky it wasn't me. Could have turned out a lot worse.

I grew up on a river and when we wanted to feel daring we'd hang out 'under the bridge,' which was exactly as dark and seedy as it sounds, jammed with kids with cars with the music too loud. I was the type who would fake-drink, too scared to actually drink. One night when I was about 15 I ate a bunch of fruit that had been in the bottom of some concoction or other and got pie-eyed, shit-faced, reeling. It was not pleasant!
